Maar ik hoorde positieve verhalen van alle kanten en gezien mijn liefde voor sociale media, was het toch eigenlijk ook wel een klein beetje verplichte ‘literatuur’. Zo kwam het dus dat ik volkomen illegaal vanavond in bed, onder het genot van heel veel thee, kruidnootjes en pepernoten The Social Network heb bekeken.
En wat een verrassing! Het was dan misschien niet de meest vrolijke, gezellige zaterdagavond film (waar ik eigenlijk naar op zoek was), maar het waren zeker geen twee uur wasting time.
Ik ben niet echt een Facebookmeisje. Ik heb een Facebook, natuurlijk. Ik denk dat ik ook wel dagelijks even online ben, maar het is niet zo dat ik compleet verslaafd ben. Pas drie weken geleden begon ik echt de voordelen van Facebook in te zien (Groups! You’ve got to love them..!) Toch ben ik meer een Twittermeisje en dat kan natuurlijk ook gewoon samen gaan, maar als ik moest kiezen, koos ik toch voor Twitter.
Om heel eerlijk te zijn, ik kende de geschiedenis van Facebook ook helemaal niet, ik wist niet dat er een 18-jarige Harvard-Geek achter het hele 500 miljoen tellende netwerk zat. Ik wist überhaupt niet dat het al uit 2003 dateerde, maar ik vond het wel verrassend interessant om achter deze dingen te komen.
Dat ik het zo interessant vond, komt heel waarschijnlijk ook wel een klein beetje door het Hollywood aspect. The Social Network is geen droge documentaire, het verhaal van Mark Zuckerberg is gegoten in een heerlijk Hollywood-format, met liefdes, de nodige sterrencasting (Justin Timberlake), uitvergroot drama en een bepaald soort spanning die tot het eind te voelen is.
Toch is de film ook weer niet over-de-top-het-ligt-er-te-dik-bovenop-Hollywood. Natuurlijk is het verhaal op de nodige plekken een beetje aangedikt, maar het verhaal is zeker niet zo voorspelbaar, twaalf in een dozijn, suikerspinzoet Hollywood. Het voelt echt, met herkenbare (Social Media) problemen, met acteurs zonder al te veel glamour en die wonderbaarlijk genoeg ook nog echt op de personen wie ze spelen lijken (did a little research).
Kortom, lieve lezers, als je ook maar een klein beetje geïnteresseerd bent in Social Media, of gewoon houdt van een goede film.. ga hem zien, het is het waard, echt!
(En ja Columbia Pictures, door deze lofzang hoop ik inderdaad dat jullie mij nu niet gaan vervolgen voor het kijken van een illegale ‘screening only’ versie, jullie hadden me ook gewoon op de persvertoning moeten uitnodigen, just kidding, natuurlijk!)
