Na m’n crepes was het ineens donker. We liepen langs de Seine en zagen alle lichtjes ontsteken. De verlichte Eiffeltoren was het mooiste wat ik de afgelopen dagen gezien heb. Of nou ja mooi, kijk het is natuurlijk net een grote Kerstboom, maar dat gevoel wat die grote verlichte Kerstboom gaf was magisch. Echt precies zoals ik me Parijs voorstel.
We liepen langs het Louvre, want ook dat was in het donker zo indrukwekkend.. De rij was beduidend minder lang en een paar seconden nadat we ons dat realiseerden stonden we al in de rij. Als we een kwartier hebben moeten wachten was het veel. Tip dus: Louvre –> Woensdag om half zeven ’s avonds!
Het Louvre was zo indrukwekkend. Ik wist dat het groot was, daar was ik al voor gewaarschuwd, maar dit! Ik had er dagen rond kunnen lopen en nog steeds niet alles gezien hebben. Niet alleen de grote was waanzinnig, de collectie natuurlijk ook, maar dat was me wel bekend. Mona Lisa was – hoe kan het ook anders – de drukst bezochte dame van het hele Louvre en wat is ze eigenlijk maar klein. Wist ik ook wel, maar als je het dan zo ziet hangen denk je ‘dit is het dus…’ als je goed kijkt, het verhaal er achter een beetje weet zal het vast heel erg bijzonder zijn, maar ik ben nog niet zo in de kunstgeschiedenis ingelezen en was dan ook niet flabbergasted van het schilderij.
Waar ik wel van overdonderd was, was de pracht van het gebouw. Dat is een kunstwerk op zich. Zo groot, magistraal, als ik alle toeristen eventjes wegdacht voelde ik me net een Prinsesje in een heel groot mooi paleis.
En natuurlijk schuilt er in mij ook nog wel een klein chauvinistje, dus had ik erg veel aandacht voor het gedeelte met de Nederlandse schilders. Toch moet ik bekennen dat, hoewel mijn innerlijke chauvinistische inslag erg trots is op de grote hoeveelheid schilders van de laatste 500 jaar, ik Nederlandse schilderkunst over het algemeen niet heel erg mooi vind. Ik zie wel dat het goed gemaakt is, maar ik ben eigenlijk meer een Monet-meisje, Frans Impressionisme.
Of dat ook in het Louvre hing zal ik nooit weten, om half tien begonnen onze magen toch wel heel erg te protesteren en moesten we eten. Misschien een vierde van het museum gezien en dus nog lang niet klaar. Volgende keer Parijs ga ik weer, woensdagavond om half zeven!
