First of all, I love you. With all your scars, dents, bumps and hairs in places where I don’t want them. You’re imperfect, and that’s okay. I do love you. I love how healthy and energetic you are, especially when fed well and given enough rest. I love your sensitivity, because it reminds me I should take care of you the best that I can. You keep me conscious of your needs.
I love how you become more athletic with every mile run, with every yoga position I notice you become more limber, creating a curvy silhouette. I see lines of elongated, strengthened muscles in places I’d never thought I’d see them. My shoulders, my legs, even my abdominal muscles are coming in, a beautiful pattern of flesh and bones underneath the bronzed skin. It makes me feel so empowered, so strong and happy.
I never thought I’d say it, with all my disordered eating crap and self-loathing as a teen, but I truly love you. You are my vessel and my shrine. My playground, my instrument, my place of residence and my journey. You are mine, and you are loved. Fuck that you’re imperfect. The best things are just that.
So I don’t strive for perfection. But I have vowed to take the most excellent care of you I possibly know how. And I still try to uphold that vow the best I can.
I will treat you with exercise, wether it’d be strenuous and exhausting or leisurely and relaxing. I will listen to you, read your signs. I will also reach beyond your limitations; I will expand the realm of what you are capable of. Even in that, I will make sure never to push you too much, because you are as much the pupil as you are the master — I have much to learn from you.
I will spoil you with healthy foods and luxurious treats; I will strive for purity and love in my diet as much as my approach to life in general. I will provide what you need more than what you desire, but your desires will never go completely ignored. I will keep you well-fed; you will get all the nutrition you need. But if you crave so, I will supply delicious coffee, rich desserts and greasy take-out. I don’t believe I will damage you with those –it can do you good every once in a while.
Don’t you worry – I pay attention to your requests. I will never again eat anything you are not in the mood for and I will never ever again let you starve. I will let you rest and I will let you dance, run and jump when you need it. I will indulge with long baths, sunlight, sex, massages, smooth body lotions, intoxicating fragrances. Every endorphin- and adrenalin-rush I can give you, you will receive.
I come bearing the humility and gratitude of a servant, as well as the power and guidance of a master. You are my temple, and I will treat you like one.

Begrijpen jullie nu waarom Genesis één van m’n meest dierbare vriendinnetjes is?! Ik had het niet beter kunnen verwoorden en ik ga het daarom nu ook niet eens proberen. Wel wil ik met jullie graag m’n eigen filosofie delen.
Volgens mij moet je eerst van je lichaam houden, voordat de liefde wederzijds zal zijn. Je moet investeren, je moet bewegen, maar niet overdrijven. Je moet gezond eten, maar jezelf ook niet alles ontzeggen. Je moet jezelf in balans brengen, je leven, je lichaam. En je moet geduld hebben, want als je al tijden ongezond leeft, kun je niet verwachten dat je binnen twee weken tien kilometer kunt hardlopen en je je weer zo fit als een hoentje voelt!
Natuurlijk zal niet ieder lichaam na een bepaalde periode geheel genezen zijn door goed voor jezelf te zorgen, maar ik denk dat er heel veel mensen bij gebaat zullen zijn. Als ik om me heen kijk hoeveel lieve, mooie, slimme mensen hun lichaam vergooien door zich ieder weekend weer vol te gooien met alcohol, of waarbij fruit en groente niet één dag van de week op het menu staat. Die pakjes sigaretten per dag roken, of die de laatste keer sportkleding droegen tijdens gymles op de middelbare school, vijf jaar geleden. Gezellige mensen, die zo’n druk sociaal leven hebben dat ze geen tijd meer hebben voor zichzelf, mooie mensen die zichzelf nooit mooi genoeg vinden.
Ik ben zelf al aardig op weg, als zeg ik het zelf. Ik leef sinds 1 januari heel bewust. Dat wil niet zeggen dat ik nooit meer iets eet wat ongezond is, want dat doe ik nog steeds meerdere keren per week. Maar ik geniet ervan, ik weet wat ik eet. Als ik een stuk chocola neem, dan weet ik van te voren hoeveel chocola ik ga eten, en ik stop ook als ik die hoeveelheid op heb. Als je me dat zes weken geleden verteld had dat ik dat kon, had ik je midden in je gezicht uitgelachen.
Ik eet weer suiker, geen grote hoeveelheden en ook niet iedere dag, maar doordat ik een maand lang vrijwel niks van suiker gegeten heb, heb ik nu na een klein beetje al genoeg. Mijn lichaam komt weer in balans. Door het voedsel dat ik eet, de kilometers die ik hardloop en de video’s van Tracy Anderson.
Zou ik dit jaar mijn goede voornemen in een nieuwe levensstijl kunnen omzetten? Only time will tell… maar voor nu voelt het heel erg goed.
